Garmin HRM-Pro is a Bluetooth-capable chest strap.
Zonas can use it for live heart rate on iPhone when the strap is broadcasting over Bluetooth and available to connect.
Setup
- Put on the HRM-Pro strap.
- Open Zonas on iPhone.
- Go to Settings.
- Choose
BLE STRAP. - Scan for heart rate monitors.
- Tap the HRM-Pro when it appears.
- Start a workout in Zonas.
Zonas stores the paired monitor and tries to reconnect when it comes back in range.
What Zonas Reads
Zonas reads live BPM.
It does not read Garmin running dynamics, stored strap memory, pace, cadence, or Garmin Connect data. Those are useful in the Garmin ecosystem, but they are not part of the standard Zonas BLE path.
The Zonas question is simpler:
What is your current heart rate, and which zone are you in?
During A Workout
The workout runs on the iPhone.
The HRM-Pro sends heart rate. Zonas calculates the zone, updates the visible surfaces, and writes samples into Apple Health through HealthKit.
That lets the workout appear in Apple Health even though the live source was a Garmin strap.
Troubleshooting
If the HRM-Pro does not appear:
- wear the strap so it wakes
- keep the phone close during pairing
- close other apps that may be connected to the strap
- move away from other wireless sensors while pairing
- check the strap battery
- forget and pair again in Zonas
Bluetooth heart rate straps are simple when one app owns the connection. They get confusing when several apps are trying to hold the same sensor.
Apple Watch Mode
Apple Watch mode is separate.
If you start a Zonas workout from the Watch companion app, the Watch owns the sensor path and mirrors heart rate to iPhone. CoreBluetooth is not involved in that path.
Use BLE Strap mode for HRM-Pro.
Common questions
Does Zonas use Garmin running dynamics?
No. Zonas reads standard live heart rate over Bluetooth. Garmin-specific running dynamics are outside the Zonas workout model.
Can I use HRM-Pro without a Garmin watch?
For Zonas live heart rate on iPhone, yes, as long as the strap is broadcasting heart rate over Bluetooth and can be paired by the app.
Why does HRM-Pro not show up in Zonas?
Make sure it is worn, close to the iPhone, and not already held by another app or device over the Bluetooth connection Zonas needs.
